Oak Wooden Flooring

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Oak wooden flooring is a favourite of architects, designers and decorators everywhere, especially those that stage homes in the hope of getting their clients quicker sales! It is also now a favourite of the average homeowner as well as a direct result of the coverage that it has received in recent months. Many may have put off having oak wooden flooring installed in the past because they perceived it as too expensive, too easily damage or too much hassle to install. However, none of the above actually applies anymore so now you have no excuse!

Oak wooden flooring is today readily available from numerous suppliers all over the UK. As a result it is extremely accessible and no longer as exclusive as it once was in terms of the price. The price has had to come down to a more affordable level for it to become as popular as it has! New technology for creating the flooring has lowered the price drastically, as has the availability of oak. Many companies only use sustainable wood from sustainable forests so your home will not have a major negative impact on the environment in that way.

Affordable and available oak wooden flooring can put the finishing touches to any room because it comes in a variety of different styles. You can get lacquered and varnished flooring in a variety of shades so it can help you to create any given effect. It can actually help to capture the light in an Old Italian style kitchen or compliment wooden sideboards in an Old English kitchen. It can compliment red, blue, yellow or any other colours of sofa in a living room, and it can bring out subtle tones in the wall décor as well.

In truth, oak wooden flooring can achieve any effect that you want and need after it has been installed, and installation is not that difficult either. It can be done as a DIY project but it will take a lot of time. Many homeowners choose to hire experts to do it because they will fit it effectively and efficiently so it will stand the test of time. It must be laid correctly if you want it in place for the next twenty years. There is no better flooring than oak wooden flooring so get it right and it will last and last.

Real Wood is Wonderful

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Wood is a very special material.  It is produced in an environmentally friendly manner through photosynthesis. It can withstand considerable loads and lasts a long time. It has a regulating effect on both the climate and heat. It is attractive to look at and there is a type if wood to suit every taste - modern, natural or classic. But there’s more to wood than this.  It has a special radiance that is difficult to describe.   A wood floor changes a room, quite simply you experience a sense of well-being when you have wood flooring in your home.  It is well know that man has used wood for housing since time immemorial.

In addition to being a  ”producer of wood” the forest improves the quality of the air through the production of oxygen, water protection, ground protection and recreation. Kahrs uses wood principally from forestry production in Sweden.  This is where growth exceeds the rate of felling and applies also to valuable hardwoods such as Beech, Oak and Ash Wood Flooring.  Kahrs converts residues from production to bio-energy, in this way, Kahrs not only supplies its own production with electricity but also generates heat for its own needs.

Which Floor Finish, Lacquer or Oil

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Oil-treated surface

If you choose an oil-treated surface for your wood floor, you get the maximum protection of the surface which is also environmentally friendly.  The natural look and feel of the wood floor will stand out.  The natural exchange of moisture in the room is promoted by the porus surfaces, which is also beneficial to allergy sufferers.  In additon oil-treated surfaces are easy to care for, and can be partially refurbished locally if required.

Oil-treated, brushed surface

Planks treated in this wayfeature a marked accentuation of the grain.  They have a really tradtional and authentic look.  This special appeal is created by the use of steel brushes which remove the soft wood from the surface of the wood, giving the planks a special hardness as well.

Lacquered surface

Lacquered planks are just the right solution if you want a surface with a silky mat finish.  The exclusive furniture quality look featuring multilayered UV acrylis lacquer gives them an elegant touch.  What’s more, a lacquered surface is hygenic and easy to care for.

Why install a Wood Floor

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Solid wood flooring creates a healthy indoor climate within your home.  This is because wood insures an optimum exchange of humidity in the room.  Nothing is more precious than the colours and shapes that Nature creates, with a solid or engineered wood flooring, you can bring this into your home.

Unlike synthetic PVC and man made floors, natural hardwood enhances your CO2 balance.  As the tree grows it extracts significant quantites of C02 from the air, and converts it into clean oxygen.  A fully grown Oak tree captures and locks away about 3 tons of CO2 in the wood which makes your floor.  Natural hardwood is one ofthe most environmentally friendly floors you can buy, actually removing Carbon Dioxide toxins from our world.
